Literacy Learning Team

Thank you to Mr. Stein, Mrs. Bart, Mrs. Mansour, Mrs. Foti, Mrs. Andrew, Mrs. Megremis, Mrs. Yasutake, Mr. Stephen, Mrs. Graham, Ms. Kath, and Mrs. Mehr for their leadership as part of our Literacy Learning Team!
The goal of this team is to review current practices, explore contemporary research and literature, and collaboratively work to chart a clearly defined path forward for our entire building (preK through 8th grade) with respect to literacy instruction. Today was our first meeting and we are most excited about the work that lies ahead! It will undoubtedly have an profound impact on student learning, achievement, and confidence!

Awesome Pawsome Day!

Across the building this morning grade levels paired up to participate in amazing activities together -PreK partnered with 4th grade; kindergarten with 8th; 1st and 7th; 2nd and 6th, 3rd and 5th.  The result was a morning filled with kids (and adults) working together and having some serious fun!
Our older students did an outstanding job in the mentoring role, and I am pretty sure learned plenty from their primary counterparts!  It is moments like this that really highlight the very special uniqueness of our East Prairie Community.
And our pep rally!!!

The Great Debate

Congratulations to our 6th, 7th, and 8th grade debaters who took part in the seventh annual East Prairie-Culver debate.  Topics covered included the role of technology in education, a permanent home for the Olympics, and democracy as a form of government.  I was beyond impressed with the performance of students from both schools.  Their depth of research, reasoning, evidence, ability to craft an argument, and passion were truly sensational!
Watching this was truly inspirational, and lifted me with hope that our discourse can be more thoughtful, intelligent, and impacting. Thank you for representing yourselves and our school in such a respectable and dignified manner!

2nd grade authors

Hats off to our second grade authors on the recent publication of their non-fiction writing pieces!  Thank you to ALL of our student authors for the time they spent researching, writing, and revising some sensational stories.  Thank you to ALL of the families that came out to this morning's Learning Expo that so beautifully highlighted this work.  Thank you to the 2nd grade team for all of the guidance, support, and inspiration to help bring this all together.  The finished texts will become part of each classroom's library before heading home.

Definition please...

Congratulations to 7th grader Ainsley Flintz on becoming the EPS spelling champion!  Ainsley persevered against some top notch talent this afternoon to claim the victory.  Congratulations to all of our participants.  She clinched the title on the word "incomprehensible."  We wish Ainsley well on the next leg of her journey!  #proudpanthers

5Essentials - we need YOUR input!

We need your insight!  The 5Essentials Survey is a tool that schools across the state use to gather feedback from families, students, and staff regarding the culture and climate of their school community.  This information is reported out as part of our state report card and factors into our overall school rating. Here is a link to the 5Essentials survey.
We need a response rate of at least 20% for our data to be counted.  Currently we are at 16%. Thank you for taking the time to share your insight on this school year to help us learn, grow, and continuously improve.

Coming Together

East Prairie School is proud to have taken a leadership role in supporting the 2020 Niles Township Coming Together program.  Coming Together seeks to build knowledge and appreciation for the diversity represented in Niles Township.  This year’s theme is Journey to Niles Township.  Here is a link to the video introduction.
Talk to any person in Niles Township and they’ll have a story for how they or their family got here.  Some are stories of recent immigration, others of being transported to these lands against their will.  Still others are stories of fleeing oppression or relocating in search of greater prosperity. Our origin stories are as central to who we are as the cultures we are a part of and celebrate.  For the past decade, Coming Together has explored some of the cultures present in our community. This year, we will explore something we all have in common: the stories of our journeys to Niles Township.
East Prairie is pleased to host several of the Coming Together events:
Wednesday, 2/5 - an evening with author Jasmine Warga
Sunday, 2/23 - Bulgarian Dance Ensemble Horo
Saturday, 2/29 - Leap Into Games From Different Cultures
Here is a link to more information on these and all of the Coming Together events.  We hope to see you at Niles West for the opening ceremony on Sunday, January 26th.
