Center court

We are proud of our history and thrilled to see it prominently displayed in our new environment.  Today, the original center court from the 1956 gym was placed outside of our new athletic venues.  A beautiful way to join our past and present together!

Open House awesomeness!

It was truly remarkable and most special to see our community come together for the first time in our incredible space last night!  The excitement and energy was frenetic and beyond positive! There is so much for our school community to take pride in!
Congratulations to Sumaiya and Uswah who found the panther last night!  The top secret location was under a couch in the third floor Learning Commons.
Looking forward to seeing everyone on Tuesday!

The final clue...

Little did you know that panthers love to read,
Follow this clue and to the missing mascot it will lead.

Go to space that is filled with lots of books,
And make sure to look behind every nook!

Snap a selfie with the Panther and you do win,
Fame, fortune, and a big old fashioned grin!

An inside look at institute day

We had a fantastic first day back as a staff!  It was fabulous to bring everyone together in our extraordinary new space and officially kick off the new year!  While we spent plenty of time learning the ins and outs of all the new technology and collaboratively planning the beginning of the year, we also set aside some time for team-building and fun!  Here's an inside look at what really happens.

Using 50 feet of rope, teams worked together (while blindfolded) to try and create a perfect square.  The activity was an energetic exercise in communication, collaboration, and community.  Being the only one without a blindfold on, it was also pretty funny to watch:)
It is terrific to have our team all together!  We look forward to adding kids and families soon!

Cutting edge classrooms

From the very beginning, the new EPS building was designed to promote community and learning throughout all areas of the environment.  With our new classroom and building design, adults and kids will have the opportunity to explore learning throughout every space of the school. Teachers and students will have the capacity to partner in new ways and learn alongside one another any and everywhere - classrooms, common rooms, hallways, team rooms, learning lounges, and more.
Our classrooms were created with flexibility and adaptability at the heart of the design.  Teachers and students will have access to tables, desks, seating, and storage units that are mobile and versatile to create an unlimited number of classroom configurations.  There is no traditional “front of the room.” There will be the flexibility to teach, coach, and facilitate learning from anywhere in the room. This set-up aligns with the professional learning our staff who has been trained in utilizing Kagan structures (cooperative learning structures) and 5Cs framework - critical thinking, communication, collaboration, creativity, and culture - which will help support the alignment of instructional practices to the new physical environment.  The social-emotional growth of students will only further be enhanced by a learning environment that provides every opportunity imaginable.
Children spend hours a day sitting in classrooms, so furniture has been provided that accommodates their natural “core” movement.  New seating options allow kids to rock, bounce, and rotate while they are sitting, allowing for enhanced circulation and concentration throughout the day, as well as, all of the learning benefits that accompany.  These classrooms increase functionality for students by lowering whiteboards and making materials easily accessible. Our new classrooms have huge technology upgrades - multiple LED panels in classrooms, classroom audio systems, high-speed wireless, and new phones.  Utilizing this technology, teachers and students will be able to create and connect in ways that were not possible before. Students can cast their laptop screens to various displays to help lead their peers in discussions, inspiring a students’ desire to learn. It is beyond exciting!
Another huge change is the availability of natural light and how this is a vital part of 21st-century classroom design. All lighting has been replaced with natural energy-efficient LED lighting.  Combine this with the natural lighting through the windows have changed the environment completely. Studies have shown that not only do student learning rates improved but flexible lighting also makes students more comfortable and reduce headaches.
This is truly the opportunity of a lifetime!  We get the opportunity to begin anew in a remarkable space that was crafted to truly meet the unique needs of our students, staff, families, and entire East Prairie community.  We look forward to welcoming you home very soon!

Panthers make a difference!

As the old school building continues to be deconstructed and excavated, we wanted to reach out with outstanding news about some of the materials that used to be on the inside.
Hundreds of desks and chairs that served our students so well were donated, and recently arrived, to the Dominican Republic.  These materials will continue to support the teaching and learning of children throughout 10 schools, 5 churches, and a feeding program in Santo Domingo.  This is a powerful example of our community’s commitment to serving others and lending a helping hand.
This is a theme that we will continue to build upon throughout the coming school year and well beyond!

Moving day!

Our amazing front office team of Bonnie & Toni hitting the ground running on day one!

Lots of signage to help you navigate where to go with ongoing construction and demolition everywhere on the property.

Our team began unpacking literally hundreds of boxes as we transition into our new home.  Here is the early stages of that work in our district office.
There's not a bad view in the place!  Here is looking down from the library (3rd floor) to the Cafetorium below.  It is amazing how many people are constantly busy doing so many different things to get everything ready for our students, families, and teachers!
